Our three divisions— Social Justice Services, Community Strategies, and the Crime and Justice Institute, are recognized for their effectiveness and contributions to this important work.


    Within Social Justice Services (SJS) we support men and women leaving incarceration and young adults with complex clinical needs to make positive, and sustainable life transitions. SJS provides residential and non-residential services and programming in addition to staff development opportunities for our workforce. As we aim on expanding our workforce as well as services to our clients we are hiring Direct Care Counselors to work at our Sargent House which is conveniently located a short walk from Boston Medical Center.


    The Direct Care Counselor is responsible for providing support services to individuals residing in a six-bed community home for youth aged 18 to 22 who exhibit challenging behaviors due to trauma-based diagnoses, sexually abusive behavior, cognitive disabilities, and/or intellectual challenges.




    • Implement Activities of Daily Living, Individual Service Plan Objectives, and Behavior Plans.
    • Involve individuals in social/recreational activities including:
      • Socialization and community integration
      • Development of meaningful interpersonal skills
      • Transportation and access of public transportation
      • Role modeling
      • Leisure and recreation
      • Development of cooking, budgeting, and shopping skills
    • Involve individuals in Functional Skill Development
      • Development of communication skills
      • Personal hygiene and cleanliness of living area
    • Provide job coaching, career development, and pre‐vocational support services; including teaching and training, specific to each individual’s needs.
    • Promote a high quality of living in all areas including medication administration, meal preparation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and leisure/recreation.
    • Provide transportation of individuals to scheduled appointments or social activities.
    • Provide off-site supervision, as necessary, when individuals are engaged in volunteer or employment opportunities.
    • Record progress notes, behavioral data and log notes for each individual residing in the program.
    • Attend all required training designated by the Program Director, Assistant Director, and/or CRJ.



    Qualifications Required:

    • Minimum of High School diploma or GED.
    • Prefer experience in residential settings.
    • Prefer experience with system-involved youth.
    • Valid Drivers License
